I've been learning to play Words with Friends on my Kindle Fire. My BBF is kicking my butt. And she used to be a roughneck in the oilfields before she married and had babies. It is humbling.
Soooo....what did you eat at the $75 meal??? Don't leave us hanging like that!
Actually, I find it quite entertaining that you describe most of your meals in detail, yet the $75 meal is just left at that...no details at all.

.... actually, I had a steak..... except that it was about 1-inch by 1-inch square...... I think I remember having three or four green beens that were stragegically arranged..... au grautin potatoes..... after the meal, we all secretly craved a Big Mac and large fries......
... honestly?.... I have no idea what this journal entry is about..... no clue at all...... but I DID write it down..... so it must have seemed important at the time.....
Our guide (Toby's boss) drove us around in the country outside of Aberdeen. He told us that most of the forests were cut down during the Industrial Revolution, but later replanted. Pretty amazing.
.... actually, Lou, that is true..... both because of the industrial revoltion and the constant wars with France and the need to build a bigger Navy...... but then, after the Highland Clearances, the sheep that were introduced ate all of the new-growth trees.... as a result, Scotland was nearly totally deforested by the 1850s.........
... still, the area around Aberdeen is quite beautiful....
.... I bought a resin-cast scarab beetle, a horus statue, and a statue of Sekhemet...... I later gave the statue of Sekhemet to Denny (the GOC) as a birthday present.......
.... so were those objects worthy talking points in the man room?....... aaaaaaabsolutely......
.... you'd be surprised, Lou........ sometimes it is almost like the blogosphere..... you're left standing there scratching your head and saying, "you honestly can't make this shit up."....
.... that last sentence should have read "second", not "minute"...... but then again, my math is sometimes faulty...... anyone know what 550mph works out per second?....
HAhahaha - yes. Eric, I believe you witnessed the birth of the "Metrosexual"... Goodness. The world needs more *real* men. Get your *own* piece, men! That philosophy should apply to more that just cake... I am just sayin'...
We sat in front of some British kids heading to see their grandparents in Texas on one our return transatlantic flights. They were so funny talking about how excited they were to see Texas things - like fire ants.
... I must say that the meals across Belgium, Germany, and Luxembourg were all first class.... but if I have my druthers, I'd prefer my fish served headless and deboned....
... thankfully the wild boar arrived at the table looking surprisingly porkchop like....
I am always amazed that people can keep journals while they travel. I have tried over the years with the best of intentions and it never goes anywhere. LOL. This is excellent. Of course you write on paper exactly as you do online so naturally it's great.
I truly wish I had written travel logs... as it is, you have me writing my memories of them in my personal journal. Some of your comments just seem to revive some wonderful memories that I'm now glad to get down on paper.

Great to read you back on-line. Have really missed your blog stuff. I love the travel diary stuff...why not make it contiguous on dates for some timeline fun? RJC
I have been meaning to comment on thses posts for a while. I am amazed, I thought I was the only nutjob who kept a travel journal. I wanted to post my own, but my scanner refuses to cooperate.
I'm not trying to be contrary, but I'm going to have to disagree with Yabu. I think your pen to paper is amazing. Seriously. How you look at life is beautiful. A poet.
I can't imagine going through life like that. A gift it is. I go through trying to laugh. Perhaps more of a defense mechanism...
All this tells me is that your writing ability is not tied to the availability of Media Electronica. Your personality jumps right off each page. You may think of these scans as filler; I find them right enjoyable.
My comment was about his penmanship...not about content. It is hard for me to read his writing. That is all. I want to make sure we're clear on that. Again, my comment had nothing to do with content...i't just hard for me to read. You ought to see mine. Look, Eric is my friend, and if I was going to chastise him, I would damn sure do it to his face. I just can't easily read his writing, that's what I meant by typing. Has absolutely nothing to do with his writing, but everything to do with pen to paper. I sorry you took my comment out of context.
Yabu... No my apologies! I thought you meant content comparing the two... written vs. blog. He has a great blog, when he bothers to write. *ahem* I think his writing is easier for me to read since this family has absolutely the worst writing known to mankind. I mean... bad. Since I can read it (probably due to trying to decipher our own around here), I mistook. My bad!
I think it's so cool that you keep a travel log. I'm enjoying this! And you have great handwriting. Sheesh. I posted anything I wrote, someone could have to call in a cryptologist...
I hope you keep posting pages from your Journal. I so wished I had kept one. At the moment I have to live vicariously and you make places come to life. I HAVE been keeping a separate Journal for each of our daughters of my memories and thoughts of them as they grow up. By time it's my turn to leave them, I hope to give them their life as seen through their Mother's eyes.
Thank you for sharing.
PS My father was a cryptologist too. He rarely talked about his military service and after I enlisted, I understood why.

.... for the past seven years I have kept a travel journal....... and since I don't seem to be writing very much lately, I thought it might be a bit interesting to me, at least, to re-see what I had to say for myself back in the day.......
...sometimes it is good to look back and remember where we came from..........
....anyway, here is the first page of my journal......... this could get quite interesting...... oh, and I hope that you can read my handwriting......
