I've heard that there was a secret chord That David played and it pleased the Lord but you don't really care for music, do ya?It goes like this -
The Fourth, The Fifth, The Minor fall, The Major lift
the baffled king composing HallelujahHallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Your faith was strong, but you needed proof
you saw her bathing on the roof
her beautify and the moonlight overthrew youShe tied you to a kitchen chair
she broke your throne, she cut your hair
and from your lips she drew the HallelujahHallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Baby I've been here before,
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew youI've seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
it's a cold and it's a broken HallelujahHallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
There was a time you let me know
what's really going on below
but now you never show it to me, do you?and remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
and every breath we drew was HallelujahHallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Maybe there 's a God above,
All I ever learned from love
was how to shoot at someone who outdrew youand its not a cry you can hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
it's a cold and it's a broken HallelujahHallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
..... the work of Mr. Leonard Cohen that I read today for the first time - after having listened to the song many, many times....... odd how I never caught the full power of the lyrics until today..... and wow..... they're beautiful....
... if you fancy singing along, then I highly recommend this version...... enjoy....
.... and with that?.... well, Hallelujah, folks... ......
I had never heard this version and didn't even know who the original writer was. I've heard so many different people sing it and of course it's famous from Shrek. Shrek aside, a movie I've seen a billion times because I'm a dork, this song is one of my favorites. .. but not because of Shrek. I just love the song...

Hallelujah!
Knowing the words makes all the difference.
Bullshitted by kdzu on May 25, 2010 08:24 PMWho would've thought... Eric, a Leonard Cohen fan? Me, I think Cohen's version of this much-covered song is still the best, sung in his scratchy, gritty voice... but Cale's interpretation is most worthy as well.
