Slippery....

.... well, boys & girls, it looks like we're in for our biggest snowfall around here since "The Blizzard of '93".... indeed, we're set to get 5-6 inches today followed by ice after midnight.....

... back in 1993, Chattanooga received nearly four feet of snow....

.... anyhoo, the bad thing is that The Missus is working a long shift today and will be driving home around 10:30..... I'm thinking that rear-wheel drive Cadillac may not be completely agreeable under these conditions, but she said there was no way that she could leave earlier..... hmmm..... I guess I'd better dust off the Danners and hunt up my tow rope, just in case....... then again, I'm not so sure Blanche would fare much better.........

.... if anything, it should be one helluva interesting night......

Bullshit So Far

I was in Norbert Keppner's beer garden in Biloxi MS when that storm pushed through. My buddy The Keez walked in from smoking a butt and said it was snowing. I knew we had knocked a big ass dent in the meter beer that night, but I never figured The Keez for one to lose his marbles over it.

Sure enough, it was snowing to beat the band when I stuck my head out of the bar. Big wet flakes were falling from the sky and accumulating on a Gulf of Mexico beach. It ended up snowing about three inches that night.

And if I hadn't been there to see it for myself, I probably wouldn't have believed anyone trying to tell me the story, either.

Well, three hundred miles west of ya things ain't much better. Got about a 1/4 of ice over night and started snowing early this morning. Snow on and off all day and now we got 3-4 inches. Roads in a shit state but the weather folk got the word out early so Wal-Mart and the local groceries were stampeded Thursday. Shelves and cooler layed bare of bread and milk. There in lies the question. Why is it when bad weather is forecast do people suddenly feel the need to consume mass quantities of bread and milk?
Me...I head for the one-stop and stock up on beer. Can always hunker down in a sleeping bag and survive on barley cola, beanie-weenies, and saltines. Done it before..

We were supposed to go to Asheville today, but thought better of it. Some friends made the trip anyway... took 'em eight hours to make a four-and-a-half hour drive, and it's not at all clear whether they'll get stuck there for far longer than planned.

South + Snow = Clusterfuck.

... I was already overseas in the Corps when the blizzard hit, Andy, but I head the tales afterwards..... and yeah, you're right..... some of them had to be seen to be believed.....

... I agree, Tbird.... hell, I've got a few tins of Beenie Weenies in the cupboard right now for just such an occasion..... and of course all those MRE's left over from Y2K...

.... and Elisson, sir, tis always best to stay at home on days like today..... good luck to your friends!....

No snow in Jersey this weekend. No alligators either. And, we don't pump our own gas. Once in a while, Jersey doesn't seem all that bad.
