Nelson...

... damnation, people.... here I sit sipping Scotch and enjoying a wonderful evening of blissfully not-posting, and I find myself mocked!... and not just mocked in the usual sense, oh no... instead I am somehow jumbled in with a story of little Jewish boys feeding perfectly good country-food to their religious elders in lieu of chickpeas..... I ask you, what is this world coming to?...

.... goodness, it is so heartbreaking sometimes... I mean, you wake up every day, and it's just breathe, breathe, breathe, write, breathe..... I am a man, dammit.. not a machine!....

... by the way, did you guys know that when Admiral Nelson was killed at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, his body was shipped back to England in a cask of brandy?... how cool is that!?...

... no, it's true.. it is... you can trust Uncle Eric...

Gee I didnt know that the Royal Navy carried brandy thought it was justrum cuz Churchill said that morale in the Navy was due to Rum,Bum, and the Lash. Maybe all the brandy got used up keepin old Nelly pickled.

I had the pleasure of visiting HMS Victory in Portsmouth a few years back. I knew one of the Royal Navy officers who was temporarily assigned aboard her as a glorified tour director.

He gave me and my family a special guided tour of the ship, culminating with a pint of bitter in the chiefs' mess (formerly Adm. Nelson's stateroom).

... brandy was hard to come by because of France being the main producer.. and since the UK was perpetually at war with France, they switched to rum instead....

... but after Trafalgar, it was indeed brandy that they used to pickle Nelson...
