... my girl Hazel over at Little Paper Drink Umbrellas is on a Hendrix kick at the moment... hey, nothing wrong with that... nothing at all.... Hendrix was indeed a Guitar God.. at whose altar I have spent many a kneeling hour..... but in passing by, I happened to see "Little Wing" being discussed... well, I just had to stick my nose in the door conversation, fill my lungs to their fullest, and scream "SRV"... as I have always opined, Stevie's version is much better than Mr. Jimmie's....
... sure, the purists among you might disagree... fair enough... and to you I say, I care not for your opinion... scurry back from whence you came.. after all, I am not here to discuss... I am here to preach... and today's sermon is on why SRV's version of "Little Wing" kicks the Hendrix version to the proverbial curb... why does it?.. well, it just simply does... end of lesson...
... and remember, gentle readers... you can trust Uncle Eric... yes, yes you can....
Should you need any help convincing people, I am yer girl.
Also, I was at an Apple Festival here in Gettysburg last weekend and there was this live band (as opposed to a dead one, I suppose, ew).
Anyway, they played Rocky Top and, as I'd just read where Rob was happy about the outcome of some football game since he didn't hafta sit thru Rocky Top being played to him by you over the phone, I stood there, goosebumped, revelling (sp?) in the song.
It made me think of you and grin big enough to hurt my cheeks... (FACIAL CHEEKS!)
(*giggle*)
Rocky Top
You'll always be
Home sweet home to me...
Good ol' Rocky Top
Rocky Top Tennessee...
(And, the goosebumps are back...)
Hugs on ya

Bullshitted by Michele on October 18, 2005 02:35 PMStevie Ray was the man! Saw him in a bar in Jacksonville Beach, Fl in '87. I never saw Henrix live but man, Stevie Ray could play that axe!
I concur, SRV's "Little Wing" is better than the original.
SRV's Little Wing was only better than Jimi's because Jimi did it first.
If you could switch the men around in the timestream, I'll bet Jimi's would've been better.
I'm not arguing your point, I'm just saying that it's no reflection on the talent of the men we're discussing.
Bullshitted by Harvey on October 18, 2005 05:14 PMJimi would bow down.
SRV was the master, saw him playing the song with the guitar behind his back fer crissakes. Jimi was good. SRV was better. Maybe the best.
But I nominate Jeff Beck in that elite crowd.
