... later this afternoon, I will be touching down at Ronnie Reagan Airport... from there, I plan on a short cab ride.. one which will wind me towards the pubs, bars, and clubs of Alexandria and Georgetown... the evening will be spent drinking Scotch and telling lies with Blackfive and Friends... heh, after our Chicago adventure, I believe I can hang...
... on Saturday, the Wife arrives... we'll catch a Cubs game, get a sunburn, and soothe ourselves - again - in a pub with good friends...
... thunderstorms are predicted for Sunday.. but, hey.... have Gore-Tex, will travel... oh, and the lovely Princess Cat has kindly offered to act as our personal tour guide of the Capitol.. in other words, you rubberneckers are on your own this weekend... I am flying the proverbial coop...
... you know something, children?... these weekend getaways sure are hard on an old man like me... heh heh...
You been to DC before? Filthy fucking city. You'd expect it to be a shimmering chrome temple to all that is America, but that's one of the nastiest towns I believe I have ever been to, just in terms of dirty, funky, homegrown, filth. Alexandria and Georgetown are nice, and there is a reason for that. No one wants to live in DC.
Bullshitted by bitterman on May 13, 2005 11:01 AMWow. You're going to the source of all that is crap in the nation. Good luck and hold onto your wallet.
Bullshitted by Ogre on May 13, 2005 11:10 AM.. indeed, this is my virginal trip.. who knows, maybe I'll come back a changed man... then again, maybe some of my inherent goodness & honesty will rub off on the Washingtonians... heh heh...
Bullshitted by Eric on May 13, 2005 11:15 AMHave a nice time, tell all of them hello from me, take care and be careful, DC is bad on crime, Cat
Bullshitted by catfish on May 13, 2005 11:57 AMI realize that baseball, bars, and buffoonery are the main course, but you might wanna go check out the new WWII Memorial and The Vietnam Wall. Both are very impressive and quite moving.
I could spend a month or two scouring The Air & Space Museum and the Museum of American History at the Smithsonian just by themselves, and then the rest of my life submerged in the National Archives and the Library of Congress just wandering the public vaults. More stuff than you could possibly see in a lifetime. It's really overwhelming.
Bullshitted by bitterman on May 13, 2005 12:59 PMIf you're near the Gathersburg / Rockville area at any time and want a pretty good watering hole I'd recommend J.J. Muldoons. They've got great crab cakes too by the way.

Bullshitted by Harvey on May 13, 2005 01:17 PMGo up in the Old Post Office tower. Gives a nice view of the city. It is open and breezy - which is nice. And you don't stand in the intermidable lines at the Washington Monument.
And the Air & Space Museum extension at Dulles Airport is well worth the drive. It is a wonderful/horrifying feeling to stand next to the Enola Gay. (And if you are lucky - to sneak a touch.)
Bullshitted by The Maximum Leader on May 13, 2005 01:29 PMI did DC for a week last summer. I had a lot of fun. See the new Memorial. I went to all the Memorials, except for 'nam as I still can't do that one yet. I'm not there in my head... and may never be.
I was suprised by how early the city shuts down. I couldn't find a coffee house opened after 10.
Bullshitted by Boudicca on May 13, 2005 03:15 PME, buddy, I wish you a fantabulous weekend, but lemme tell ya' somethin'... The "getaway" weekends might be "hard" on ya, but try stayin' home for one of mine... If it don't kill ya, it'll make you wish you were dead.
Wave at Abe for me will ya?
Whoa, a big time heartland blogger coming to our stomping grounds!
Hey, ignore the BS: The DC area is no worse than any other city. Horrible traffic, typical miscreants, excellent job market and outstanding fishing (within 200 yards of the Alexandria waterfront, I might add.)
Try the Spy Museum in DC - VERY COOL.
If you're going to be here on the Red State side of the metroplex, the good guy side, whilst in Alexandria try to get your buddies to take you to Hard Times Chili for fine victuals, and the Fish Market for part of the bar-hopping which I have to assume you will be delving into. Virginia can be quite enjoyable.
Welcome to our little slice of heaven, Eric.
Bullshitted by John Climacus on May 14, 2005 12:30 AMFuck Bitterman. Although I love him. Do some Smithsonians. There be a damned SR71 Blackbird around there, I think.
Bullshitted by Velociman on May 15, 2005 06:18 PMI love you too, Vman.......in that 'developmentally pinched brother that the state home refused to take off our hands' kinda way.
