Alex Karras...

.. a few years ago, I bought an autographed picture of ole Alex... it was of him riding that Brahma Bull down the street in Blazing Saddles...

... when I took it to the shop to get it framed, I just couldn't resist having them add a typed tagline to put just below the photo... simple, yet poignant... touching, even...

... "Mongo only pawn in game of life"...

... Blazing Saddles.. there is wisdom there, children....

I know that people often say that something made them "laugh their ass off" and such, and probably most of the time it is an exaggeration. However, the first time I saw "Blazing Saddles," I laughed uncontrollably -- and it was in a theater. Every time I have seen it since, I still laugh my ass off. I have so many favorite scenes, but the one that always, always does me in is the scene where the guys are sitting around the campfire eating the beans. Christ, I'm laughing just thinking about it. Thanks for reminding me.

That *is* my favorite comedy movie of all time with most of the Marx Brothers offerings right after (and the other Mel Brooks films too). Top Three Favorite movies? Casablanca, Blazing Saddles, The Quiet Man.

Favorite lines from "Saddles":
"What in the wide wide world of sports is going on here? And why are you all dancing 'round like a bunch of Kansas City faggots?"

"Howard Johnson is right.."

"The sheriff is a ni*Bong*..."

I have football cards of Alex Karris when he was 28 years old and known as "The Mad Duck" in the NFL. I would LOVE to have him autograph one of those.

TOP THAT, Eric!

Alex Karris used to come to my house when I was a kid and he was playing football for the Detroit Lions. One thing I will always remember about his visit's was, even though he was a very big man (I was a young kid in my early teens) was how quietly he walked in our house even though I thought he would shake the house. The first time I saw him I opened the door and looked straight ahead, then up and up and up. He stood there smiling and asked if my dad was home. I was so shocked to see such a big man at our door I just shook my head yes and let him in when my dad came into the living room LOL He was such a nice man too and I enjoyed seeing him in the movies and the TV series he was in. I never got an autographic picture but I did get to meet him.
