That's my fave from Robert Service. My Dad read it to me as a child. I love his stuff. Robert Service is how I ended up over at Harvey's and ended up staying... he quoted it and I noticed it while blog surfing. Anyone who like RS can't be half bad.

My father always like Robert Service. Many years ago for Father's Day or his birthday, I bought him a book of his poetry. His favorite was "My Madonna."

But, I think Sam McGee is the classic.

I wish you could hear my dad recite this poem from memory. What a ham he is - but don't let him get started on "Horatius at the Bridge!" That's when he goes into thespian overdrive.

Damn. Great poem to begin with, and you do it so well! I'm impressed, Eric. Promise you'll do that at the Blogfest, please?

.. if I can fit it in between the drinking, half-rubber, nude greco-roman wrestling, guitar playing, AND swordfighting.. you're on....
